Which film series did J.K. Rowling write screenplays for beginning in 2016?

J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplays for the Fantastic Beasts film series beginning in 2016.

The first film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, was released in 2016. Rowling wrote the screenplay, expanding the brief textbook title mentioned in the Harry Potter novels into a story about magizoologist Newt Scamander. The film is set decades before Harry’s time and begins in New York rather than at Hogwarts.

The series continued with The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018 and The Secrets of Dumbledore in 2022. These films explore the earlier history of Albus Dumbledore and his conflict with the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. The project is distinct from the Harry Potter film adaptations: Rowling wrote the Fantastic Beasts screenplays directly, while the earlier films adapted her novels.
