Which film series did J.K. Rowling script after the Harry Potter films?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling scripted the Fantastic Beasts film series after the Harry Potter films.

The series began with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2016. Rowling wrote the screenplay, expanding the fictional textbook mentioned in the Harry Potter books into a story centered on magizoologist Newt Scamander. The film is set decades before Harry’s time and begins in 1926, largely in New York City.

The series continued with The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018 and The Secrets of Dumbledore in 2022. Rowling’s screenplay credit differs from the Harry Potter films, which adapted novels she had already written. The Fantastic Beasts project therefore marks her direct move into screenwriting for a major wizarding-world production.
