Alien 3 is the only Alien franchise movie directed by David Fincher.
Released in 1992, Alien 3 was Fincher’s feature-film directorial debut. The story follows Ellen Ripley after her escape from the events of Aliens, when her spacecraft crashes on the prison planet Fiorina 161.
The production underwent major changes and reshoots, and Fincher later became known for films such as Se7en, Fight Club, and Zodiac. Because he directed only this one entry in the franchise, Alien 3 is sometimes described as his first major studio film.
Alien 3 is often confused with Aliens, the 1986 sequel directed by James Cameron, or Alien: Resurrection, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Fincher did not direct either of those films.
