Sonja Henie won three consecutive Olympic singles gold medals from 1928 through 1936. The Norwegian figure skater captured women’s singles titles at the 1928 St. Moritz, 1932 Lake Placid, and 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Winter Olympics.
Henie was only 15 years old when she won her first Olympic title in 1928. Her skating combined athletic jumps with ballet-inspired presentation, helping establish the style of modern women’s competitive figure skating.
After her third Olympic victory, Henie turned professional and became a highly successful touring performer and film star. She appeared in Hollywood productions and helped bring figure skating to larger audiences beyond the competitive arena.
Her three Olympic singles titles remain a distinctive achievement in women’s figure skating. The record is sometimes confused with pair-skating achievements, where several athletes have won multiple gold medals, or with Katarina Witt’s two consecutive singles victories in 1984 and 1988.
