Quidditch is the fictional broomstick sport featuring a Golden Snitch in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels.
A Quidditch match is played by two teams of seven players. Each team has three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker. Chasers score with the Quaffle, Beaters defend their team with bats, Keepers guard the goal hoops, and Seekers pursue the Golden Snitch.
The Snitch is worth 150 points when caught and usually ends the match, although catching it does not automatically guarantee victory. This rule creates an important strategic distinction between the Snitch and the other balls used in the game.
Quidditch is often confused with other magical pastimes in the books. Gobstones is a separate game, Exploding Snap is a card game, and wizard chess is a magical version of chess. None uses broomsticks or a Golden Snitch.
