Kenneth Branagh played Gilderoy Lockhart in the film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Released in 2002, the film adapts Rowling’s second Harry Potter novel. Lockhart is the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, famous for supposedly heroic exploits that are gradually revealed to have been borrowed from other witches and wizards. Branagh played the character as charming, vain, and unreliable.
The role is easy to confuse with other prominent adult characters in the series. Ralph Fiennes played Lord Voldemort, Jason Isaacs played Lucius Malfoy, and Alan Rickman played Severus Snape. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was directed by Chris Columbus, who also directed the first film, and it was the last Harry Potter movie directed by him.
