Which fictional school is founded by four medieval wizards in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series?

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is founded by four medieval wizards in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.

The founders are Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin. The school is a boarding institution in Scotland where young witches and wizards study magic, generally beginning at age eleven.

Hogwarts is divided into four houses named after its founders. Students learn subjects such as Charms, Transfiguration, Potions, Herbology and Defence Against the Dark Arts. The castle is protected from ordinary Muggle view and contains changing staircases, secret passages and enchanted rooms.

Other wizarding schools appear in the wider setting, including Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, Durmstrang Institute and Ilvermorny. They are separate institutions. The four-founder origin belongs specifically to Hogwarts, whose history also includes the long-running conflict between Gryffindor and Slytherin’s traditions.
