Remus Lupin teaches Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books.
Lupin becomes the subject’s teacher during Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the third novel. He is widely regarded by Harry and his classmates as one of the most effective and supportive teachers they encounter.
During his lessons, Lupin introduces the class to creatures such as Boggarts and helps Harry learn the Patronus Charm. His knowledge is especially significant because he is secretly a werewolf, a fact connected to the dangers and prejudice he experiences.
Lupin leaves Hogwarts after his condition becomes known to parents and school authorities. The Defence Against the Dark Arts post is also notable because successive teachers occupy it for only one school year during the main series.
