Which fictional police department is Leon S. Kennedy assigned to in Resident Evil 2?

Leon S. Kennedy is assigned to the Raccoon Police Department in Resident Evil 2. He arrives in Raccoon City for his first day as a police officer, only to find the city overwhelmed by a zombie outbreak.

The department is commonly known as the Raccoon Police Department, or R.P.D. Its headquarters becomes one of the game’s principal locations. Leon and Claire Redfield explore its offices, corridors, underground areas, and hidden rooms while searching for a way out of the city.

Leon’s arrival as a rookie officer is an important part of his character history. The R.P.D. is also connected to the earlier S.T.A.R.S. team, whose members investigated the mansion incident in the original game. The police department should not be confused with S.T.A.R.S., which is a specialized unit operating within the R.P.D. rather than the department’s full name.
