Which fictional newspaper publishes stories in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books?

The Daily Prophet is the fictional newspaper published in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books.

It is the main newspaper of the British wizarding community and appears throughout the series as a source of news, political messaging, and public opinion. The paper is based in London and is delivered to readers by owl, reflecting the magical society’s communication methods.

The Daily Prophet is not always presented as a neutral source. Its coverage changes with political pressure, especially during the Ministry of Magic’s attempts to control information about Lord Voldemort’s return. This makes the newspaper part of the series’ broader treatment of propaganda, reputation, and institutional power.

The Quibbler is a different publication in the books. It is edited by Xenophilius Lovegood and is known for unusual stories and unconventional viewpoints. Readers sometimes confuse the two because both are wizarding newspapers, but The Daily Prophet is the primary mainstream publication.
