Which fictional newspaper does J.K. Rowling feature as the wizarding world’s main newspaper?

The Daily Prophet is the main newspaper of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world.

The Daily Prophet reports news for witches and wizards in Britain and Ireland. It appears throughout the Harry Potter novels and often provides the wider public’s view of events at Hogwarts and of the rising threat from Lord Voldemort.

The newspaper is not presented as a consistently independent source. Its coverage changes under pressure from the Ministry of Magic, especially when officials deny Voldemort’s return. During the Second Wizarding War, the publication becomes a tool for official messaging and propaganda.

The Quibbler is a different publication, edited by Xenophilius Lovegood. It is known for unusual stories and for supporting Harry when mainstream outlets refuse to do so. Witch Weekly is another magazine in the setting. These names are sometimes confused because all three are wizarding periodicals, but The Daily Prophet is the newspaper with the broadest regular news role.
