Cormoran Strike is the fictional detective protagonist of J.K. Rowling’s novels published as Robert Galbraith.
Strike is a private investigator who operates in London and appears in the crime series beginning with The Cuckoo’s Calling. He is a former military investigator who lost part of one leg after an explosion in Afghanistan. His background and physical injury influence both his work and his personal life.
Robin Ellacott becomes Strike’s assistant and later his business partner. Their professional relationship is central to the series, while the mysteries involve murders, disappearances, threats, and complex suspects. The books use the Robert Galbraith name even though Rowling’s authorship was later confirmed.
The character is not connected to Harry Potter’s wizarding world. Strike belongs to a contemporary detective setting, with London offices, police investigations, publishing circles, and ordinary legal procedures. The series’ title character is therefore Cormoran Strike, rather than a magical or historical detective.
