The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Madden NFL 25 (2013) ran on EA Sports’ Ignite engine.
Ignite was introduced by Electronic Arts in 2013 as a technology platform for its next-generation sports games. Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14, and NBA Live 14 were among the first titles announced to use it on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Its systems were designed to support more detailed player animation, collision calculations, artificial intelligence, and stadium presentation.
The game’s platform split is important. The PS4 and Xbox One editions launched in November 2013 and used Ignite, while the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions used Infinity 2 according to the game’s infobox. The older versions also had different cover athletes: Adrian Peterson appeared on the newer-console covers, while Barry Sanders appeared on the seventh-generation editions.
Players sometimes remember Frostbite because later Madden games adopted it. The Madden series transitioned to Frostbite beginning with Madden NFL 18, several years after Ignite powered the 2013 next-generation release.
