Which driver shares the Formula 1 record of seven World Drivers’ Championships with Lewis Hamilton?

The story behind the answer

Michael Schumacher shares Formula 1’s record of seven World Drivers’ Championships with Lewis Hamilton. Schumacher won his titles in 1994, 1995, and from 2000 through 2004.

His first two championships came with Benetton, while his five consecutive Ferrari titles transformed the Italian team’s modern history. The 2000 championship was Ferrari’s first drivers’ title since Jody Scheckter won in 1979.

Schumacher’s 2004 season was especially dominant: he won 13 of the 18 races and secured the title with several events still remaining. Hamilton later matched Schumacher’s total in 2020. Although their records are tied, the two drivers achieved their championships in different eras and with different scoring systems.
