James Caan joined the British Dragons' Den panel in series 5, replacing Doug Richard.
Caan first appeared as a Dragon in the programme's fifth series in 2007. His arrival followed the departure of Doug Richard, one of the original investors from the 2005 launch panel. Caan was known for building businesses in recruitment and human resources, particularly through Alexander Mann Solutions.
As with every Dragon, his role was to assess pitches and decide whether the requested equity justified the proposed investment. The programme's negotiations can make a deal appear agreed on screen, but investments may still depend on later due diligence and legal completion.
Caan's tenure is separate from that of fellow investors who joined later, including Hilary Devey, Kelly Hoppen and Touker Suleyman. Remembering the replacement helps distinguish the series-five change from subsequent panel reshuffles.
