Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Toy Story 5 was in active development.
Iger made the announcement during Disney’s first-quarter earnings call in February 2023. He discussed several major sequel projects, including new entries in the Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia franchises. The announcement officially moved Toy Story 5 beyond fan speculation and earlier comments from cast members who had expressed interest in another film.
The timing can cause confusion because Toy Story 4 had been presented by some participants as a possible final chapter. Tom Hanks had described it that way in 2019, while Pixar did not permanently rule out another sequel. Iger’s 2023 statement was the confirmation that the fifth main film was actively being developed. Andrew Stanton later became director, with Kenna Harris involved as co-writer and co-director. Toy Story 5 is produced by Pixar and scheduled for release by Walt Disney Studios on June 19, 2026.
