Which Detroit Lions wide receiver is the Madden NFL 13 cover athlete?

The story behind the answer

Calvin Johnson was the Detroit Lions wide receiver who became the Madden NFL 13 cover athlete.

EA Sports used a large fan-voting tournament to choose the cover star. The process began with 64 players, pairing teammates from each of the 32 NFL teams. After the opening round, the field was reduced to a 32-player bracket. Johnson advanced through the tournament and ultimately faced Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in the final.

Johnson won that final vote by 52% to 48%, earning the cover of the 2012 game. Madden NFL 13 was the 23rd main installment in the series and was released for systems including PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U, PlayStation Vita, and iOS. A common mix-up is confusing Johnson's cover with later Detroit Lions-related Madden appearances; Madden NFL 25 used Barry Sanders on some editions, not Johnson.
