Which detective does J.K. Rowling write about under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling writes about Cormoran Strike under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. Strike is a private detective and former military investigator who works in London.

The character debuted in The Cuckoo’s Calling, published in 2013. Robin Ellacott joins the detective agency as a temporary secretary in that novel and becomes Strike’s important professional partner across the series.

Cormoran Strike belongs to a realistic crime-fiction setting rather than the fantasy world of Harry Potter. Rowling used the Robert Galbraith name to publish the series separately from her best-known children’s novels, although her authorship was publicly disclosed soon after the first book appeared.
