Germany’s Owen Ansah won the men’s 200 metres at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
Ansah ran 19.95 seconds to take gold at Alexander Stadium. Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes finished second in 20.16, and Italy’s Fausto Desalu and Switzerland’s Timothé Mumenthaler shared the bronze medal after both recorded 20.26.
The result gave Germany a sprint victory in an event that requires athletes to combine explosive acceleration with speed endurance around the bend and into the home straight.
Ansah also appeared in the championships’ 100-metre final, where he won bronze. That made him one of the most successful male sprinters in Birmingham, although his 200-metre gold was his standout individual result.
