Massimo Stano won the men’s marathon race walk at Birmingham 2026 in 2:56:49.
The Italian’s performance was marked as an area record and the world-leading performance at the championships. Spain’s Miguel Ángel López finished second in 2:56:57, while France’s Aurélien Quinion took bronze in 2:59:29.
The marathon race walk replaced the former 50-kilometre race walk in the championship programme. Its distance is the same as a road marathon: 42.195 kilometres, but athletes must maintain legal race-walking technique throughout.
Race walking requires continuous contact with the ground and a straightened supporting leg from first contact until the body passes over it. Judges monitor technique, making the event both a test of endurance and technical discipline.
