Which country won the most medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics?

The story behind the answer

Norway won the most medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics, collecting 39 medals.

The Norwegian team finished the PyeongChang medal table with 14 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze medals. Germany also won 14 gold medals, but Norway’s larger overall total placed it first by total medals.

Norway’s strongest results came in cross-country skiing, biathlon, ski jumping, and alpine skiing. The country’s performance continued its long tradition of success in snow sports, helped by extensive participation in winter disciplines and a strong national skiing culture.

The 2018 Games were held in South Korea from 9 to 25 February. Norway’s 39-medal haul exceeded its previous record of 26 medals at a single Winter Olympics, set at the 2014 Sochi Games. Medal-table rankings can differ depending on whether countries are ordered by gold medals or total medals, but Norway led on total medals and gold-medal count was tied with Germany.
