Which country won the mixed 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2026 European Athletics Championships?

Great Britain and Northern Ireland won the mixed 4 × 100 metres relay at the 2026 European Athletics Championships.

The British team won in 39.97 seconds, setting a European record. The quartet included Dina Asher-Smith, Amy Hunt, Zharnel Hughes and Jeremiah Azu. Mixed relays combine male and female athletes in the same team, adding tactical choices to baton order and exchanges.

The victory formed part of Britain’s strong sprint campaign in Birmingham. Hunt had already won individual and relay titles, while Asher-Smith was one of the championship’s most experienced medal winners.

Relay races are decided not only by individual running speed but also by baton exchanges inside marked takeover zones. A clean exchange can preserve momentum, while a slow or illegal exchange can cost a team the race even when its athletes are fast.
