Israel won the men’s marathon team title at the 2026 European Athletics Championships.
The Israeli team, featuring Gashau Ayale, Tadesse Getahon and Haimro Alame, recorded a combined time of 6:28:37. Germany finished second in 6:29:03, while France took third in 6:32:12.
The team competition was distinct from the individual men’s marathon, which Germany’s Amanal Petros won in a championship-record 2:09:11. Team medals were determined by combining the performances of the relevant runners from each nation.
Marathon team competitions reward depth as well as individual speed. A nation needs several strong finishers, because one outstanding athlete cannot compensate fully for a weaker overall team total.
