Which country is the Airbus A330 MRTT’s launch customer?
Answer
Australia
Answer
Australia
Australia was the launch customer for the Airbus A330 MRTT.
The Royal Australian Air Force ordered the aircraft under Project Air 5402, and the first converted aircraft was delivered in 2011. Australia operates the type as the KC-30A, using it for aerial refuelling, strategic transport and other support missions.
The A330 MRTT is based on the civil Airbus A330-200. Airbus adds military refuelling equipment, including a boom and under-wing hose-and-drogue pods, while retaining a large passenger and cargo capability. This combination lets one aircraft support several mission types.
Other air forces later selected the A330 MRTT, including those of the United Kingdom, France, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. Australia is the launch customer, not merely an early operator, and its aircraft carry the KC-30A designation.
