Which Airbus aircraft first entered service with the French Air Force as the A330 MRTT?

The story behind the answer

The Airbus A330-200 MRTT is the aircraft that entered service as the A330 MRTT with the French Air Force.

The A330 MRTT is a military tanker and transport aircraft derived from the civilian A330-200. It can refuel other aircraft in flight while also carrying passengers, cargo, or medical evacuation equipment.

The French version is designated Phénix and entered service with the French Air and Space Force in 2018. Airbus converts the aircraft by installing military refuelling systems, communications equipment, and other mission hardware.

The A310 MRTT was an earlier tanker conversion based on the A310, while the A400M is a separate turboprop transport. Those aircraft are related to Airbus’s military portfolio but are not the A330 MRTT.
