How many full-length passenger decks does the Airbus A380 have?

The story behind the answer

The Airbus A380 has two full-length passenger decks.

This double-deck arrangement is one of the aircraft’s defining features. The main deck and upper deck both extend through most of the fuselage, allowing airlines to configure the aircraft with seats, galleys, lavatories, and other passenger facilities on both levels.

The A380 is often casually called a “double-decker,” but that description can cause confusion because some other large aircraft have partial upper decks or different multi-level arrangements. The A380 is distinctive because its two passenger decks run essentially the full length of the fuselage.

Airlines have used the space in different ways. Some installed premium cabins or lounges upstairs, while others placed business and economy seating on both decks. The aircraft entered commercial service with Singapore Airlines in 2007 and became the largest passenger airliner in regular service.
