Which country is hosting the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games?
Answer
Scotland
Answer
Scotland
Scotland is hosting the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with the events centred in the city of Glasgow.
This will be the fourth Commonwealth Games held in Scotland. Edinburgh hosted the event in 1970 and 1986, while Glasgow staged the Games in 2014. Glasgow 2026 therefore marks a return to the country only 12 years after its previous Commonwealth Games.
The host is sometimes described as Glasgow because cities are selected to stage the event, but Scotland is the country hosting it. Australia and Canada have hosted other editions, while Wales has hosted Commonwealth sporting events but is not the host of Glasgow 2026.
Glasgow was chosen after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew from hosting the Games because of escalating cost projections. The Scottish proposal focused on existing venues and a smaller sports programme, helping make the event more financially manageable.
