Which country is home to the tallest waterfall, Angel Falls?

The story behind the answer

Which country is home to the tallest waterfall, Angel Falls? Venezuela. Angel Falls is in Venezuela’s Bolívar State and is the world’s tallest uninterrupted waterfall.

The falls plunge from the edge of Auyán-tepui, a flat-topped mountain in Canaima National Park. Their total height is about 979 metres, including cascades, while the longest uninterrupted drop is approximately 807 metres. The water eventually joins the Churún, Carrao and Orinoco river systems.

The waterfall’s international name honours Jimmie Angel, a U.S. aviator who flew over it in 1933 while searching for a valuable ore deposit. In 1937, Angel returned and attempted to land his plane on Auyán-tepui. The aircraft became stuck, and Angel and his companions descended the mountain on foot over 11 days. His plane remained on the summit for decades.

The Indigenous Pemon name Kerepakupai Vená is also used, and the falls are commonly called Salto Ángel in Spanish. Angel Falls is usually described as the tallest waterfall, though measurements of total waterfall height have occasionally prompted comparisons with South Africa’s Tugela Falls.
