Which mountain is the highest point in the Andes and outside Asia?
Answer
Aconcagua
Answer
Aconcagua
Aconcagua is the highest point in the Andes and the highest mountain outside Asia.
Aconcagua rises to about 6,961 metres in western Argentina, near the border with Chile. It is part of the Andes mountain range and lies within Aconcagua Provincial Park in Mendoza Province. The mountain is generally considered a mountain formed by tectonic uplift rather than an active volcano.
Its name has several proposed origins, and its exact meaning remains debated. The mountain’s severe altitude, dry climate, strong winds, and rapidly changing weather make it a serious mountaineering challenge even though its normal route does not require highly technical climbing.
The first recorded successful ascent reached the summit in 1897. The expedition was led by the British mountaineer Edward FitzGerald, and the summit was reached by the Swiss guide Matthias Zurbriggen. Aconcagua is one of the Seven Summits, the highest mountain on each continent.
