Which country hosted the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo?

The story behind the answer

Norway hosted the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo.

The Games took place from February 14 to 25, 1952, and were the first Winter Olympics held in Norway. Oslo became the first capital city to host the Winter Games, although several events were staged outside the city, including alpine skiing at Norefjell.

Norway topped the medal table with 16 medals, including seven golds. The host nation’s cross-country skiers and ski jumpers were especially successful. Hjalmar Andersen won three speed-skating gold medals, while Simon Slåttvik won the Nordic combined title.

The Oslo Games also introduced the Olympic flame ceremony at the Morgedal birthplace of modern skiing. The flame was then carried to the capital for the opening ceremony, creating a tradition distinct from the torch relay used at Summer Games.
