Which country hosted the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid?
Answer
United States
Answer
United States
The United States hosted the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.
The Games were held in Lake Placid, New York, from 4 to 15 February 1932. They were the third edition of the Winter Olympics and the second held in North America. Lake Placid was a small resort community in the Adirondack Mountains that had developed a strong winter-sports reputation.
Only 252 athletes from 17 nations attended, partly because the event took place during the Great Depression. Weather also affected the competition: unusually warm conditions forced organizers to use artificial ice and reschedule some events.
The 1932 Games introduced several notable changes. The bobsleigh competition used a longer track, while speed skating adopted mass starts rather than the paired racing format used previously. The United States finished first in the medal table, helped by strong performances in speed skating and bobsleigh.
