Chuck Noll led the Pittsburgh Steelers to four Super Bowl wins in the 1970s.
Noll became Pittsburgh’s head coach in 1969 and transformed a struggling franchise into one of the NFL’s defining dynasties. His Steelers won Super Bowls IX and X after the 1974 and 1975 seasons, then captured Super Bowls XIII and XIV after the 1978 and 1979 seasons.
The teams were built around the “Steel Curtain” defense, featuring stars such as Joe Greene, Jack Lambert and Mel Blount, while Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann and John Stallworth powered the offense. Noll was the first head coach to win four Super Bowls.
A common mix-up is crediting the players or team president Art Rooney for the dynasty’s leadership. Noll was the head coach in all four victories. Vince Lombardi also won multiple Super Bowls, but his titles came with Green Bay in the 1960s.
