Which coach led the Philadelphia Eagles to their first Super Bowl victory in 2018?

The story behind the answer

Doug Pederson coached the Philadelphia Eagles to their first Super Bowl victory in 2018.

The Eagles defeated the New England Patriots 41–33 in Super Bowl LII on February 4, 2018, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The win gave Philadelphia its first Super Bowl title and its first NFL championship since 1960. It came in Pederson’s second season as the Eagles’ head coach.

Philadelphia entered the playoffs as the NFC’s top seed after a 13–3 regular season. Quarterback Carson Wentz had suffered a season-ending knee injury late in the year, so backup Nick Foles led the postseason run and earned Super Bowl MVP honors. Pederson’s aggressive play-calling included the famous “Philly Special,” a fourth-down touchdown featuring a direct snap and a pass from tight end Trey Burton.

Andy Reid, one of Pederson’s former mentors, had coached Philadelphia to its previous Super Bowl appearance in 2005, but the Eagles lost that game to New England. Nick Sirianni later became the Eagles’ head coach, but he was not in charge of the 2018 championship season.
