Steve Kerr coached the Golden State Warriors to their first NBA championship in 40 years in 2015.
Kerr took over as Golden State’s head coach in 2014, making the 2014–15 season his first in that role. The Warriors quickly became one of the league’s strongest teams, finishing the regular season 67–15 behind the playmaking of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Golden State defeated the New Orleans Pelicans, Memphis Grizzlies, and Houston Rockets before reaching the NBA Finals for the first time since 1975. The Warriors beat LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers 4–2, securing the franchise’s fourth championship and its first in four decades.
Kerr made a major tactical adjustment in the Finals by inserting Andre Iguodala into the starting lineup in Game 4 and using a smaller, faster group. Golden State won that game and the next two; Iguodala earned Finals MVP, while Kerr became the first rookie head coach to win an NBA title since 1982.
