Which coach led the Denver Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl wins?

The story behind the answer

Mike Shanahan led the Denver Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl wins.

Shanahan became Denver’s head coach in 1995 after previous coaching work with the Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers. His breakthrough came in the 1997 season, when the Broncos defeated the Green Bay Packers 31–24 in Super Bowl XXXII. It was the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship.

Denver repeated the achievement the following season. The 1998 Broncos went 14–2, won Super Bowl XXXIII by defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34–19, and became one of the relatively few teams to win consecutive Super Bowls. Quarterback John Elway earned Super Bowl MVP honors in the first victory and retired after the second, while running back Terrell Davis powered much of the offense.

The main trap is John Elway, who appears among the wrong options. Elway was the Broncos’ quarterback and leader on the field, but Shanahan was the head coach. Bill Belichick and Tom Landry also won Super Bowls, just not Denver’s consecutive titles in 1997 and 1998.
