Which club won the first AFL premiership officially played under the AFL name?

The story behind the answer

Collingwood won the first premiership officially played under the AFL name in 1990.

Collingwood defeated Essendon in the 1990 Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The match was the competition's first premiership decider after the Victorian Football League was renamed the Australian Football League.

The Magpies won by 48 points, ending a long premiership drought that had lasted since 1958. Tony Shaw won the Norm Smith Medal, while Collingwood's strong second half turned the match decisively in its favour.

The competition's name changed from VFL to AFL before the 1990 season as the league continued its national expansion. Earlier premierships are still part of the same historical competition, but 1990 is the first season whose official competition name was AFL.
