Which club won the 2000 AFL premiership?
Answer
Essendon
Answer
Essendon
Essendon won the 2000 AFL premiership.
Essendon defeated Melbourne in the 2000 AFL Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Bombers won 19.21 (135) to 11.9 (75), securing the premiership by 60 points.
The victory completed one of the most dominant seasons in VFL/AFL history. Essendon lost only one match during the 2000 home-and-away season and entered the finals as the leading team. Its disciplined defence, strong midfield and powerful forward options made it a formidable opponent throughout the campaign.
The 2000 premiership was Essendon’s 16th top-level premiership, although the club’s previous success had come in 1993. Melbourne reached the Grand Final after a strong finals run, but Essendon controlled the deciding match. The result is separate from Essendon’s 1993 premiership and from the club’s earlier VFL titles.
