St Kilda won the 1966 VFL premiership, the first and only senior flag in its history.
St Kilda defeated Collingwood by one point in the 1966 VFL Grand Final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The final score was St Kilda 10.14 (74) to Collingwood 10.13 (73), making it one of the narrowest grand-final finishes in VFL/AFL history.
The premiership ended a long period of frustration for St Kilda, which had entered the VFL in 1897. The club had reached the 1913 Grand Final but lost to Fitzroy, and it waited more than half a century for its breakthrough.
The Saints have appeared in later grand finals, including in 1997 and 2010, but neither produced another senior men’s premiership. Their 1966 victory is therefore commonly described as both their first flag and their only VFL/AFL men’s championship.
