Which city is the primary setting for J.K. Rowling’s Cormoran Strike novels?

The story behind the answer

London is the primary setting for J.K. Rowling’s Cormoran Strike novels.

The series, published under the name Robert Galbraith, follows private detective Cormoran Strike and his professional partner Robin Ellacott. Strike’s office is located in Denmark Street in central London, and many investigations take the characters through recognizable parts of the city.

The books use London as more than a backdrop. Its streets, neighborhoods, institutions, and social contrasts shape the investigations and help establish the series’ contemporary crime-fiction atmosphere. Cases also lead the characters outside the capital, but London remains the recurring home base.

The fictional detective is not related to Harry Potter, and the Strike novels are realistic crime stories rather than fantasy. They are separate from Rowling’s wizarding fiction even though the same author created both bodies of work.
