Which city is scheduled to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games?
Answer
Glasgow
Answer
Glasgow
Glasgow is scheduled to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The Scottish city was selected after the original host, the Australian state of Victoria, withdrew because projected costs had escalated.
The Glasgow plan is a compact version of the Games, using existing venues rather than constructing a large new sports estate. Competition is scheduled for 23 July–2 August 2026, with events spread across four venues and a reduced program of 10 sports.
Glasgow previously hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2014, so the 2026 edition will mark the city’s second time as host. Edinburgh hosted Scotland’s earlier Commonwealth Games in 1970 and 1986, which explains why Edinburgh can seem like a reasonable alternative but is not the scheduled 2026 host.
The event is commonly called Glasgow 2026. It is planned as the 23rd Commonwealth Games and the first edition since Birmingham 2022.
