Beijing hosted both the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2022 Winter Olympics.
The Chinese capital became the first city to host both editions of the Olympic Games. Beijing staged the Summer Olympics in 2008 and then hosted the Winter Olympics from 4 to 20 February 2022.
The 2022 Winter Games used venues in Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou. Indoor ice events were concentrated in Beijing, while alpine skiing took place in Yanqing and many snow events were held in Zhangjiakou.
The distinction is between a city and a country. China had hosted the Summer Olympics before hosting the Winter Games, but Beijing was specifically the first host city to stage both. Tokyo hosted the Summer Olympics twice but has not hosted a Winter Olympics.
