Which child owns the toys at the start of Toy Story 5?

The story behind the answer

Bonnie owns the toys at the start of Toy Story 5.

Bonnie becomes the toys’ owner at the end of Toy Story 3, when Andy gives Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the other toys to her before leaving for college. Andy demonstrates how each toy works and then entrusts them to Bonnie, creating the emotional handoff that closes the original trilogy.

Toy Story 4 confirms that Bonnie is growing up with the toys. She creates Forky during kindergarten orientation, takes the toys on a family road trip, and gradually forms her own relationships with them. In Toy Story 5, Bonnie remains the child whose attention and playtime are central to the story, as new technology challenges the role of traditional toys.

Andy is therefore a common but incorrect choice: he owned the toys for most of the first three films, but he passed them to Bonnie. Chelsea and Blaze are not the established owners of the main Toy Story collection.
