Which Chevrolet station wagon debuted for 1955 as part of the Bel Air line?
Answer
Chevrolet Nomad
Answer
Chevrolet Nomad
The Chevrolet Nomad debuted for 1955 as a station wagon in the Bel Air line.
Its two-door body, wraparound rear glass, and distinctive rear roof treatment gave it a sportier appearance than Chevrolet’s conventional wagons. The Nomad was closely related to the 1954 Corvette Nomad show car, although the production version used full-size Chevrolet passenger-car engineering rather than Corvette construction.
The 1955 Nomad was part of Chevrolet’s major styling and engineering redesign, which also introduced the small-block V8. It should not be confused with the later Nomad versions: Chevrolet reused the name for two-door wagons based on the 1958–1961 full-size cars and again for a mid-size wagon in the 1960s.
Because it was sold within the Bel Air range, some descriptions call it a Bel Air Nomad. “Nomad” is the specific model name most commonly used for the wagon itself.
