The Chevrolet Aveo was originally named Daewoo Kalos.
Daewoo launched the Kalos in South Korea in 2002, and General Motors later marketed the small car under several names after acquiring Daewoo Motor's vehicle operations. In many markets it became the Chevrolet Aveo, while other regions used names such as Pontiac Wave or Holden Barina.
The Aveo was developed as a global small car and was offered as both a sedan and a hatchback. Its name and equipment varied by country, which can make automotive references appear inconsistent even when they describe the same basic model.
Daewoo Lanos is a common mix-up because it was another Daewoo small car sold internationally before the Aveo. The Lanos was an earlier model, whereas Kalos was the name attached to the vehicle that became the first-generation Aveo.
