The Chevrolet Camaro package named after the International Race of Champions was the IROC-Z.
Chevrolet introduced the IROC-Z package for the 1985 Camaro. Its name referred to the International Race of Champions, a racing series in which drivers competed in identically prepared cars. The package was based on the third-generation Camaro Z28.
IROC-Z equipment included performance-oriented suspension changes, special graphics, and other upgrades. Later versions could be ordered with powerful V8 engines, helping the package become one of the most recognizable third-generation Camaro variants.
IROC-Z is often mistaken for the Z28 because both were associated with Camaro performance. The Z28 was a long-running Camaro performance designation, while IROC-Z specifically identified a package tied by name to the racing series.
