Which Chevrolet model introduced the small-block LT1 V8 to the brand’s performance lineup in 1992?
Answer
Chevrolet Corvette
Answer
Chevrolet Corvette
The Chevrolet Corvette introduced the small-block LT1 V8 to Chevrolet’s performance lineup in 1992.
The LT1 arrived in the C4 Corvette for the 1992 model year. It was a 5.7-liter, small-block V8 with electronic fuel injection, reverse-flow cooling, and improved power compared with the earlier L98 engine.
Reverse-flow cooling allowed the cylinder heads to receive coolant before the engine block. This helped control combustion-chamber temperatures and supported a higher compression ratio. The LT1 became one of Chevrolet’s best-known modern small-block engines.
The engine later appeared in other General Motors vehicles, including the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. It is therefore easy to associate the LT1 with those cars, but the Corvette was its first Chevrolet production application. The LT1 name was also reused for later engine families.
