Which charity received proceeds from J.K. Rowling’s 2008 book The Tales of Beedle the Bard?

The story behind the answer

The Children’s High Level Group received proceeds from J.K. Rowling’s 2008 book The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

The charity was co-founded by Rowling and later became known as Lumos. The Tales of Beedle the Bard is presented as a collection of five wizarding fairy tales. In the Harry Potter story, Albus Dumbledore leaves Hermione Granger a copy, and “The Tale of the Three Brothers” becomes important to the plot of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The real-world book includes an introduction by Rowling and notes attributed to Dumbledore. Its publication extended the fictional world while also supporting work for vulnerable children. The charity’s original name can be confused with Comic Relief because Rowling had also supported that organization through related fundraising initiatives.

The volume was published in December 2008 in multiple language editions. Its five stories are “The Wizard and the Hopping Pot,” “The Fountain of Fair Fortune,” “The Warlock’s Hairy Heart,” “Babbitty Rabbitty and Her Cackling Stump,” and “The Tale of the Three Brothers.”
