Which charity published J.K. Rowling’s 2008 book The Tales of Beedle the Bard?

The story behind the answer

The Children’s High Level Group published J.K. Rowling’s 2008 book The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

The charity, later renamed Lumos, was co-founded by Rowling and politician Emma Nicholson. Rowling donated the proceeds from the book to support children living in institutions and other vulnerable circumstances.

Within the Harry Potter story, The Tales of Beedle the Bard is a collection of wizarding fairy tales. Hermione receives a copy from Albus Dumbledore, and the tale “The Tale of the Three Brothers” becomes important to the final plot. The real-world edition was presented as a translated collection with commentary attributed to Dumbledore.

The book is distinct from Rowling’s earlier Hogwarts companion volumes, including Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Those books supported Comic Relief-related fundraising, which is why the charities can be mixed up.
