Which character is the new space ranger toy introduced in the original Toy Story?

Buzz Lightyear is the new space ranger toy introduced in the original Toy Story.

Andy receives Buzz as a birthday present, and the toy quickly becomes the center of attention among the other toys. Buzz initially believes that he is an actual space ranger on a mission rather than a toy. His misunderstanding creates the central conflict with Woody, Andy's longtime pull-string cowboy doll.

Buzz's name combines the idea of a futuristic space hero with a tribute to astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second person to walk on the Moon. The character's design includes a retractable helmet, wings, a laser-like wrist feature, and a space-themed uniform.

Although Buzz begins as Woody's rival, the two characters become close friends and recurring partners throughout the series. The character also became one of Pixar's best-known figures and later received a separate film, Lightyear, in 2022.
