The setup changes the balance in Bonnie’s toy room. After Woody leaves to help abandoned toys find owners at the end of Toy Story 4, Jessie becomes the room’s leader, with Buzz Lightyear serving as her second-in-command. Bonnie’s enthusiasm for Lilypad creates a new challenge for the traditional toys.
Lilypad is easy to confuse with the returning Toy Story characters because the film’s central cast includes familiar toys such as Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and Forky. However, Lilypad is a new character introduced for the fifth main film. The name also reflects the character’s frog-like design.
Toy Story 5 was announced as a Pixar sequel in 2023 and is scheduled for release in 2026. Andrew Stanton directs and co-writes the film, which continues the series’ exploration of changing childhood interests.
